Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2015 winners...

The second UK awards ceremoney took place in London on 4th March 2015. The BBC's Justin Webb announced the winners.

CDFI Growth Award

 Fair Finance team pick up the growth awardCelebrating growth in lending, services and impact
Fair Finance – a London-based consumer and business lender, which secured major commercial investment to grow its lending by 75% last year

CDFI New Horizon Award

Graeme Oram of Five Lamps picks up the New Horizon awardCelebrating innovation and creativity to meet changing market needs
Five Lamps – a Stockton-based personal and business lender which has teamed up with an award-winning social enterprise to launch a new retail outlet offering domestic goods on affordable, weekly payment plans for low-income consumers.

 
CDFI Marketing Award

Winners of the marketing awardCelebrating dynamic, inventive and ethical approaches to reaching customers
Joint winners:

  • Charity Bank – a bank supporting charities and social enterprises across the UK, which promotes its social purpose by connecting savers with the impacts of its borrowers.
  • Coventry & Warwickshire Reinvestment Trust – a West Midlands business lender that re-launched its brand, built a strong public presence and referral network, growing its loan pipeline from 0 to £1.4m in six months.
  • My Home Finance – a consumer lending CDFI that launched the creative ‘affordable lending campaign’ bringing together 24 partners attracting national attention to the alternatives to payday lenders.

 
Microentrepreneur Award for Sustainability

Rhonda Montgomery picks up the microentrepreneur award for sustainabilityCelebrating outstanding microentrepreneurs that demonstrate impact and sustainability, supported by CDFIs
Montgomery Food Consulting Ltd - a thriving food consultancy business founded by Rhonda Montgomery in County Tyrone, which introduced an innovative butchery excellence scheme, supported by a loan from Enterprise Northern Ireland and Ulster Community Investment Trust.

 
Microentrepreneur Award for Growth

Charles Sumner of Nottingham Car picks up the Microentrepreneur awardCelebrating amazing microentrepreneurs leading vibrant, growing businesses, supported by CDFIs
NottinghamCar.com - Charles Sumner has moved from bankruptcy to running a multi-million pound quality used car business, with eight staff and an apprenticeship scheme, supported by a loan from First Enterprise Business Agency.

Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2014 Winners...

The inaugural UK Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards took place in February 2014. The BBC's Steph McGovern announced the winners at a glittering ceremony in Bristol

1. Impact

Winner:
Five Lamps - Transforming lives and raising ambition for families, businesses and communities in the North East

2. Innovation


Winner:
Co-operative & Community Finance - Enabling community ownership through innovative lending and investment funds
 

3. Communities in Partnership


Winner:
Big Issue Invest - Pioneering methods to tackle poverty and inequality by enabling social housing tenants to improve their credit rating

4. Microentrepreneur


Winner:
BetterYou - Andy Thomas and Robin Whitbread are pioneers in innovative health products, who have brought jobs to Sheffield and seen huge growth in turnover

5. CDFI Hero

Winner:
Pat Conaty -
“Without Pat Conaty there would not be a CDFI movement in the UK.”

6. Outstanding Loan Officer

Winner:
Shamima Begum, Fair Finance - From volunteer to team leader, a committed and outstanding member of the team
